But you can be excused for believing that AI is in control given the buzz surrounding the technology\u2019s rapidly expanding reach into everything, everywhere \u2013 and the world of energy is no exception.<\/p>\n<p>Curious as to how AI views the optimization of distributed energy resources, we asked ChatGPT how AI can be used to optimize DERs. Although ChatGPT summarized available information nicely, the popular, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/what-is-chatgpt-and-why-does-it-matter-heres-everything-you-need-to-know\/\">AI-powered natural language processing tool<\/a> stopped short of telling an energy user how they can optimize their DERs and how they would benefit.<\/p>\n<p>Here are four ways that AI can optimize DERs, according to ChatGPT, along with CPower\u2019s comments on each.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Optimizing DERs for Demand Response<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>ChatGPT says: <\/em>AI can analyze energy consumption patterns and predict demand fluctuations. By considering factors like weather, time of day and user preferences, AI algorithms can optimize the timing and magnitude of energy generation and storage to match demand. This helps balance supply and demand, reducing peak loads and optimizing the utilization of DERs.<\/p>\n<p><em>CPower adds:<\/em> Flexible DERs are <a href=\"https:\/\/cpowerenergy.com\/new-report-validates-ders-and-vpps-are-key-to-smooth-energy-transition\/\">ideal for balancing supply and demand<\/a> and avoiding blackouts or brownouts because they can provide a range of valuable grid services. AI can help customers optimize <a href=\"https:\/\/cai.ieee.org\/2023\/ai-for-energy\/\">participation in demand response programs<\/a> for the good of their organization and the grid. Real-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emergingtechbrew.com\/stories\/2022\/08\/26\/here-s-how-ai-could-transform-the-us-power-grid\">insight into demand<\/a> is increasingly critical as intermittent renewable generation resources, like solar and wind, account for an ever-larger percentage of the nation\u2019s power mix.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Allocating Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>ChatGPT says: <\/em>AI can optimize the allocation of energy resources in a distributed network. By considering factors like energy prices, load profiles and system constraints, AI algorithms can determine the most efficient distribution of energy generation, storage and consumption across DERs. This leads to better utilization of available resources and reduces energy waste.<\/p>\n<p><em>CPower adds:<\/em> The ability to quickly dispatch DERs in response to shifts in supply or demand is essential to keeping the grid balanced.
